On April 22, 2022, a Nairobi court ruled that former Family Bank CEO Peter Munyiri has a case to answer in the Ksh.791 million National Youth Service money laundering case.

Munyiri, a Nyeri governor aspirant, was charged alongside six other senior bank employees for failing to report suspicious bank transactions carried out by the main NYS scandal suspect Josephine Kabura.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi found that the prosecution had proved its case against Munyiri and three other accused individuals.

Munyiri had argued that the Director of Public Prosecutions had failed to prove a prima facie case against him, but the court disagreed.

The case has been pending in court for six years.
