Former Sports Minister Rashid Echesa has made a stunning U-turn in his support for Deputy President William Ruto, citing a lack of benefits for the Luhya community under Ruto's leadership.
Speaking on July 15, 2019, Echesa stated that he would only support Ruto if he explains the benefits the Luhya community would receive under his leadership.
Echesa's comments come as a surprise, given his previous strong support for Ruto and the Jubilee party.
According to Echesa, the Luhya community has been disappointed by Ruto's leadership, with many feeling that they have not received the support they deserve.
He also accused Ruto of abandoning the Luhya community, saying, "We have been playing with the lives of our people, and we have been supporting you without getting anything in return. You promised to take us to Canaan, but you later joined your competitors."
It remains to be seen whether Echesa's comments will have any impact on the political landscape in Kenya.
