On Monday, July 15, 2019, Irene Wanjiku Njeri and Fredrick Kinani appeared before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyot in a Nairobi court, facing charges of obtaining money through false pretence and conspiracy to defraud.

According to the allegations, the duo conspired to defraud Mary Wanjiku of Ksh.250,000 by falsely pretending they were in a position to recruit her children to the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

They further allegedly pretended they would secure the children jobs in Germany through Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

During the court proceedings, Njeri prayed for lenient bond terms, citing her status as a single mother with sick children. Kinani also pleaded for leniency, stating he is the sole breadwinner for seven children.

The two pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000 each. The case will be mentioned on August 13, 2019.
