July 1, 2019, marked a historic day for Senegal and Algeria as they advanced to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Kenyan fans, however, found an unexpected reason to celebrate Harambee Stars' performance in the tournament.

Despite losing to both Senegal and Algeria in the group stage, Kenyan fans boasted on social media that their team had 'finished third' due to being in the same group as the finalists.

Senegal secured a spot in the final by defeating Tunisia 1-0 in extra time, thanks to an own goal by Tunisian defender Dylan Bronn. The Lions of Teranga had not reached the final in 17 years.

Algeria, on the other hand, earned a final spot with a stunning 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the 94th minute, courtesy of a free-kick by Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez. This marked Algeria's first AFCON final since 1990.

Kenyan fans took to Facebook to praise Harambee Stars for their efforts in Group C, which they described as a 'group of death.'
