Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso Returns Home After Medical Treatment Abroad ¶
On May 29, 2019, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso left the country to seek medical attention in the UK. She was admitted to the Royal Marden NHS Foundation Trust Hospital in London, where she stayed for a while before being transferred to India in June 2019 for further medical attention.
According to sources, Laboso's condition has not been made public, but her deputy Hillary Barchok has been in charge of the county operations during her absence. Barchok was assisted by the county secretary Evelyn Rono and chief of staff Jayne Sigilai.
Laboso returned to the country over the weekend and will continue with her treatment in one of the local health facilities as advised by her doctors. There has been growing concern among the residents of Bomet, who were not privy to the governor's condition.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kenya's High Commissioner to the UK Manoah Esipisu paid Laboso a visit when she was still receiving treatment in London. The county boss's return has been welcomed by the residents of Bomet, who are relieved that she is back home.
Laboso's office had earlier indicated that she would continue receiving medical attention in Kenya. The county communications director, Ezra Kirui, had stated that the governor would return home in a few days and would continue with her medication reviews locally as per her doctor's advice.
