Published on July 15, 2019, the 4B Kisumu Mall fraud probe has identified two Cabinet Secretaries, a Governor, and a Senator as individuals heavily involved in inflating the construction cost of the mall.
The Kisumu Mall was constructed by the Lake Basin Development Authority, and investigators have found evidence of a Chinese firm bribing government officials to build the project at an exaggerated amount.
According to EACC documents, the firm, Edermann Property, conspired with government officials to receive corruption kickbacks, leading to the mall being unoccupied almost two years after its completion.
”Files are now with the DPP. We have to wait for a response from there. If the DPP gives us consent to arrest then we shall move in and abide by the recommendations,” said EACC spokesman Yassin Amaro.
The EACC estimates that upwards of Sh 2 billion may have been skimmed off through inflated costs in the construction of the magnificent shopping complex.
