On July 14, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko expressed his support for Harambee Stars, the Kenyan national football team, despite their early elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Stars had picked a single win in Group C against Tanzania, losing their two other matches to Algeria and Senegal.
However, Sonko remained optimistic about the team's future, stating, "Despite the early elimination of Harambee Stars at the ongoing Afcon tournament in Egypt, we should not lose focus on the development of sports in the country," as reported by Citizen Digital.
He further pledged to offer support to the team, including making the newly-renovated Dandora Stadium available for training sessions ahead of the Chan campaign.
Kenya will kick off their Chan qualifiers in a two-legged affair against Tanzania, with the hope of qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
