On July 14, 2019, Moses Kuria, a member of parliament for Gatundu South, made a statement that the Jubilee party was compromised when President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga formed an alliance in 2018.

According to Kuria, the alliance, known as the 'Handshake,' marked the beginning of the end of Jubilee's leadership, with Raphael Tuju, the party's secretary-general, allegedly working against the party's interests.

Responding to Deputy President William Ruto's claims that Tuju was working against Jubilee, Kuria said, 'Rafiki yangu William Ruto. Chama cha Jubilee kiliisha kisiasa mnamo Machi 9, 2018... Raphael Tuju tu ni meneja wa kushikilia. Usimshambulie mtumwa.'

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga formed the 'Handshake' on March 9, 2018, marking a significant shift in Kenya's political landscape.

Since then, Jubilee has been plagued by internal conflicts, with some members accusing Raila of trying to undermine the party's unity ahead of the 2022 general elections.
