As the world marks World Population Day, Nairobi men are being encouraged to take up reversible vasectomy as a family planning method. According to statistics, 663 men underwent the procedure in 2018, a number that has significantly increased in 2019.

Between January and June 2019, a total of 1,596 men in Nairobi underwent vasectomy, a tremendous increase from the previous year. This trend is being witnessed across the country, with Kakamega county leading in the number of men who have undergone the procedure.

Dr. Charles Ochieng, a vasectomist, has assured men that vasectomy has no effect on their sexual drive. 'You just remain as natural as you were before. You can still perform your sexual functions, the only difference is after you have done the procedure you cannot be able to impregnate a woman,' he said.

The counties with the highest number of men who have undergone vasectomy include Kakamega, Nakuru, Tharaka Nithi, Nyamira, Uasin Gishu, Busia, Nairobi, Bungoma, Kwale, and Siaya.
