President Uhuru Kenyatta has emphasized the importance of betting firms to the country's economy, but has also urged them to comply with the law and pay taxes.

Speaking at the wedding of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Uhuru said that the firms should not threaten to take the government to court, but rather work with them to find a solution.

"These companies are friends of ours, but they must comply with the law and pay taxes as required," Uhuru said.

He added that the government needs the betting firms to contribute to the country's economy, but they must do so in a lawful manner.

Uhuru also denied allegations that the government was targeting certain betting firms by revoking their licenses.
