On July 14, 2019, the family of Captain Mario Magonga, the pilot of Deputy President William Ruto, laid him to rest in Mabonde Village, Trans Nzoia County, four months after his death in a helicopter crash near Central Island National Park in Turkana County.

The crash occurred on March 3, 2019, killing Captain Magonga and four American passengers minutes after takeoff.

Speaking at the burial, Abdulmalik Magonga, Captain Magonga's brother, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash, stating that the findings would help the family come to terms with their loss.

Abdulmalik expressed concerns over the lack of understanding regarding the cause of the crash, saying, 'We do not understand what caused the helicopter crash. We are asking for proper investigations by KCAA. A comprehensive report will certainly make us come to terms with his death.'

The family also wants to know why Captain Magonga was allowed to fly past the stipulated time, as aviation policy dictates that no chopper pilot is allowed to fly past 6pm.
