Published on July 13, 2019, a report by Maendeleo ya Wanaume has shed light on a concerning issue affecting married men in Kiambu and Nyeri counties.
According to the survey, which was conducted between April and May 2019, a significant number of men are being forced to bribe their wives for conjugal rights.
Nderitu Njoka, the national chair of Maendeleo ya Wanaume, explained that the study aimed to identify the major challenges facing couples, including spousal attitudes and the impact of socio-cultural and economic factors on marriages.
The survey involved 500 husbands and 300 wives aged between 20 and 50 years. Njoka noted that the findings reflect the experiences of many husbands across the country.
Shockingly, the report found that 80% of men only engage in intimate activities with their wives after promising to buy them gifts or give them money. Wives have also developed tactics to dismiss their husbands' advances, with 90% preferring to use offensive dress codes.
Other disturbing trends include the fact that 70% of couples no longer engage in intimate activities like kissing, and 80% of couples do not share love text messages or care about each other's status while away.
Furthermore, 70% of married couples no longer accompany each other to events or other places, and 80% of couples do not sit together in churches or public gatherings.
