Why Good Guys Finish Last

Good guys are often overlooked in favor of bad boys, but is it because they're too good or because women are attracted to the thrill of a bad relationship?

According to a study by Gregory Louis Carter of the University of Durham, women may be drawn to 'bad boys' who demonstrate confidence, stubbornness, and risk-taking tendencies. This is because women are responding to signals of 'male quality' when it comes to reproduction.

However, this doesn't mean that women don't want good guys. In fact, many women say they want a good, family-oriented man who is also humble, God-fearing, nice to people, hardworking, and polite. But why do good guys finish last?

One reason may be that good guys are perceived as boring. They may not be as exciting or adventurous as bad boys, and women may find them too predictable. Additionally, good guys may not be as confident or outgoing as bad boys, which can make them less attractive to women.

But there's hope for good guys. Women may be attracted to Mr. Notorious for the short-term thrill, but in real sense, they prefer the altruistic man to settle down with. As Harris O Malley of the Good Men Project writes, 'The appeal fades very quickly. Meanwhile, legitimately good guys — people that others like to spend time around — become more appealing over time.'

So, what can good guys do to stand out? According to Malley, they need to make their move fast, otherwise they will be overtaken by the tainted man or they will soon be friend-zoned. They also need to be confident and outgoing, but not in a way that's perceived as arrogant or entitled.

Ultimately, being a good guy is not a bad thing. In fact, it's often a sign of strength and character. As Eunice Njoki, founder of Maktaba Mashinani Foundation, says, 'I like good men. In fact, I would never date a mean man. I like kind people and I would like one for myself.'
