Famed Somali journalist Hodan Nalayeh, founder of Integrity TV, was tragically killed in a hotel attack in Kismayu, Somalia, on Friday, July 12, 2019.
Nalayeh, 43, had lived in Canada for many years and had traveled to Somalia with her family to cover a story on the effects of drought in the country.
She was killed alongside her husband Farid Jama, leaving behind two children.
Nalayeh was well-known for promoting Somali culture among Canadians and her resilience for positive change in her home country.
According to Somali Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Ahmed Hussein, Nalayeh's work as a journalist highlighted the community's positive stories and contributions in Canada, making her a voice for many.
Her family and friends from across the world, especially Canada and Somalia, have mourned Nalayeh as a woman whose outstanding efforts in her career are to be emulated by many.
