On July 6, 2019, 28-year-old Florence Wanjiru was thrown out of a moving matatu on the Kileleshwa-Lavington road, suffering severe injuries that ultimately led to her death at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has taken swift action, revoking the licenses of the crew members involved, including a class A endorsement (PSV license) for driver Joseph Muasya and a conductor's badge for John Ndwai.
NTSA Director-General Francis Meja stated that the driver and conductor will no longer operate public service vehicles, and that all 114 vehicles belonging to Killeton Sacco will undergo compliance inspection to assess their road-worthiness.
Additionally, Killeton Sacco officials have been summoned to NTSA headquarters for questioning and to submit an incident report. A compulsory road safety and customer care training for all drivers and conductors in the Sacco has also been scheduled.
NTSA urges the public to remain vigilant and report any incidents of rogue drivers on the roads.
