Bandari's Cecafa Kagame Cup campaign came to an abrupt end on Friday, July 12, 2019, after the team failed to beat Azam FC in a goalless draw at the Huye Stadium in Rwanda.
The match was a must-win for Bandari, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net, leaving them with three points from three matches and no chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.
"It was all about luck. The ball just refused to go in," said Bandari striker Wycliffe Ochomo, who was visibly disappointed by the result.
Coach Bernard Mwalala also expressed his disappointment, saying, "It's a learning process, we will come back stronger in the continental games."
The outcome of the match leaves Gor Mahia as the remaining Kenyan representative in the regional showpiece, which attracted 16 clubs.
The match was played before an impressive turnout at the 10,000-seater Huye Stadium, in Huye town, approximately 110km from Kigali and a further 10km off the Rwanda-Burundi border.
The match marked the second instalment of the Kenya versus Tanzania rivalry, with the initial match-up having played out recently at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Harambee Stars beat the Taifa Stars 3-2.
