On July 12, 2019, Geoffrey Kamworor, a three-time World Half marathon champion, made a strong statement at the National Police Service athletics championships, ruling the 10,000m race at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
Representing Western, Kamworor dominated the race from the start, finishing with a time of 27:50.65. Josephat Bett of Central came in second with a time of 28:40.58, while Joseph Kiptum of North Eastern placed third in 28:40.74.
After relinquishing his title at the World Cross Country championships, Kamworor saw this race as a test of his endurance as he transitions back to track events.
"Winning a bronze at the World Cross was a great result for me because I did my best and I think the cross country gave me a good build up towards my season," Kamworor said.
With his sights set on the World Championship, Kamworor has a clear mission: to clinch his maiden gold medal. He has already secured a spot in the national team and is now focused on making it to the top of the podium.
Hyvin Kiyeng, the 2015 World 3000m steeplechase champion, also made a strong showing at the championships, winning the women's 5000m with a time of 15:35.04.
