On the eve of the August 9 General Election, a group of boda boda riders and youth in Kisumu have been trained to prevent election violence.

Champions of Peace programme director Elly Opondo explained that the training, conducted in partnership with the Mercy Corps, aimed to enhance peaceful co-existence during the election period.

“From this platform, the group is able to update what they see during this electioneering period. The information is relayed to the police,” Opondo noted, highlighting that politicians often use boda boda riders and youth to cause violence.

Kisumu Central Deputy County Commissioner Hussein Alaso emphasized the importance of deploying the youth and riders as peace ambassadors.

According to Opondo, the training was a crucial step in ensuring a peaceful election in Kisumu.
