July 12, 2019, marked a day of distress for German investor Thomas Schiering as he lodged a complaint against a clerk at the Kwale Law Courts.
According to Schiering, the clerk had demanded a bribe from him to change the date of a hearing in a matter pending at the court.
On April 24, 2019, the clerk had communicated with Schiering via text message, demanding money in exchange for the favor.
Chief Justice David Maraga has been urged to intervene in the matter, with Schiering describing his complaint as a 'distress call.'
He fears that the clerk's actions may interfere with the case and deny him justice, a fundamental right.
