On March 2, 2022, the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Foundation announced a groundbreaking initiative to empower tea farmers with financial literacy skills.
KTDA Foundation Chief Executive Officer Sudi Matara explained that the program aims to equip farmers with the knowledge to grow and manage their income effectively.
The training, which targets 2,500 workers, focuses on small-scale tea farmers, teaching them quality tea production and crop diversification techniques.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony for 500 farmers from the Nyamache Tea catchment area in Kisii County, Mr. Matara emphasized the importance of financial literacy in managing earnings from tea.
“We have embarked on a financial literacy programme for tea farmers since we have established that they need to get knowledge on the best way to manage the earnings they get from tea,” said Matara.
KTDA Foundation's initiative has been welcomed by Kisii County Agriculture Executive Esman Onsarigo, who expressed his commitment to partnering with the State for the greater good of residents.
