On a tragic Tuesday, a former Member of County Assembly (MCA) took his own life and that of his wife in a shocking incident.
Richard Muchesia, a 42-year-old former MCA representing Isukha Central Ward in Kakamega County, had been living in Kajiado County after losing his seat in the 2017 general elections.
According to police, Muchesia used his licensed firearm to shoot his wife, Florence Okwach, 37, at their matrimonial home in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, before turning the gun on himself.
Kajiado North Sub-county Police Commander Joseph Mwika confirmed that Muchesia had used his own licensed gun, which is now in police possession.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact reasons behind the tragic incident, but police suspect that the couple had matrimonial differences.
As reported by the Nation, Muchesia had a history of being a flashy politician, and his election victory in 2013 was celebrated with a party at his rural village, attended by notable figures such as former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott.
