On July 11, 2019, Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor was arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives at a hotel in Kondele, Kisumu, in connection with an alleged irregular payment of Sh68 million to a law firm by the Nairobi County government.

At the time, Owuor was acting head of legal affairs in Nairobi County. He was taken to the EACC's Kisumu regional office for interrogation before being moved to Nairobi for arraignment in an anti-corruption court.

According to EACC deputy regional boss Aura Chebole, Owuor will be arraigned on Friday, but declined to provide further information, citing a statement already issued by EACC chief executive officer Twalib Mbarak in Nairobi.
