On July 11, 2019, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested Nyakach Member of Parliament Aduma Owuor over suspected involvement in economic crime.
According to a statement from the EACC's Chief Executive Officer, Twalib Mbarak, the MP was arrested in connection with an organised economic crime.
Aduma Owuor will be arraigned on July 12, 2019, to answer charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime and abuse of office during his tenure as Director, Legal Affairs at the Nairobi City County.
The arrest is linked to an investigation into the irregular payment of Sh68 million to M/S Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates by Nairobi City County as legal fees in a case against Kyavee Holdings Limited.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved the arrest, which was based on evidence obtained during an investigation that concluded on April 4, 2019.
Other suspects in the case include former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero, former Nairobi County Chief of Staff George Wainaina Njogu, and former County's Principal Accountant Philomena Kavinya Nzuki.
