Published on July 11, 2019, Nairobi News reported that the integration of Administration Police (AP) officers into the Kenya Police Service (KPS) has created a mix of emotions among the affected officers.

More than 23,000 AP officers are set to officially join the regular police in various celebrations across the country on Friday.

As part of the transition, officers have been asked to hand over certain items, including jackets, sweaters, maroon belts, and Angola shirts, while retaining their ankle boots, black berets, jungle belts, and jungle trousers.

According to a communication sent to regional commanders, officers are requested to proceed to the Industrial Area Police Station to change their uniforms with new ones as soon as possible.

Some officers who spoke to Nairobi News, currently undergoing training at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) training school, welcomed the move, citing benefits such as enjoying more leave days and being under a different command.

One officer expressed excitement about being among the first to wear the new uniforms introduced in September 2018 by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Another officer noted that they would no longer be misused by administrators, who would now have to follow proper channels.

The move is part of a broader plan to establish a police station in every ward, as announced by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.
