On July 11, 2019, Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama met Deputy President William Ruto at his Karen offices, just days after Kenya's exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Wanyama, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur, was accompanied by his brother and fellow midfielder Mcdonald Mariga, who is currently without a club.
The meeting also included organisers of the Wanyama Roya Charity Cup, a tournament aimed at identifying and developing young talent in the country.
Kenya had collected a single victory in their three Group C fixtures, finishing third with three points. The team lost 2-0 in their group opener against Algeria, before staging a dramatic 3-2 comeback against Tanzania.
Deputy President William Ruto tweeted about the meeting.
