July 11, 2019, marked a day when Kenyan singer Avril Nyambura took to social media to caution her fans against falling prey to impostors.
She warned that sending cash to individuals claiming to be her or know her is a recipe for disaster.
Avril shared a post on her verified Facebook page, stating:
“But surely, fam...how many times will I say this...don't send money to people on social media pretending to be certain personalities. If they don't have a cause, the possibility is that they are lying, and you are being conned.”
She also shared a screenshot of the fake profile account being used by the impostor to swindle her fans.
Her fans reacted with concern and support, with some sharing their own experiences of being targeted by fake accounts.
