On July 11, 2019, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board announced the elevation of Kitui Level IV Hospital to a Level V hospital, marking a significant milestone for the public health facility.
The hospital, situated on a 10-acre piece of land, has met the laid-down accreditation criteria, including a well-run pharmaceutical management system, specialized medical equipment, improved cleanliness, and medical services.
According to Daniel Yumbya, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, the hospital's elevation comes with numerous benefits, including an annual allocation of Sh300 million from the national government.
The hospital currently boasts a 300-bed capacity, with over 50 medical officers of various specializations, an operating theatre, specialist clinics, and a radiology unit with X-ray machines.
The elevation of Kitui Level IV Hospital to a Level V hospital is a testament to the county's commitment to providing quality healthcare services to its residents.
