On July 9, 2019, the owner of Pimp My Ride East Africa car wash rushed to court in a bid to stop the impending demolition of the garage erected on the site where Simmers Club once operated. The court, however, declined to grant his wish, certifying the matter as urgent and asking the owner to serve Governor Mike Sonko's administration ahead of the hearing on July 12.
Despite the owner claiming to have all the necessary validations for the business, including approvals and building permits from the county government itself, his plea fell on deaf ears. A lease between the owner and the landlord had been binding for the better part of their contract until he was slapped with a seven-day notice to bring it down.
The piece of land has been marred with controversy dating back to when Simmers Club was demolished. In May 2019, Sonko was recorded threatening the car wash business, claiming it sat on land that did not have approval and would be brought down.
