On July 11, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded outside City Hall in Nairobi, as a man chained himself to the building and threatened to take his own life.

The man, desperate for attention, had demanded to see President Uhuru Kenyatta, and when Governor Mike Sonko posted images of the scene on social media, he explained the situation.

"Whoever is near city hall. Huyu jamaa ako hapo sai anasema kama haoni President Uhuru sai anajinyonga (This guy is outside City Hall now, he is saying if he doesn't see President Uhuru he will hang himself)," Sonko said.

The man, who was carrying a placard that read 'Help me to see Mr President, Governor Sonko, Senator Sakaja, MP Korir', had also asked Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir to help him speak with the President.
