On July 10, 2019, Delta Flight 1425, a 32-year-old McDonnell Douglas MD-88, was traveling from Atlanta to Baltimore with 154 people on board when it encountered a serious engine issue.

According to eyewitnesses, there was a loud bang and the cabin filled with smoke, prompting passengers to panic.

Passenger Logan Webb captured a video of the incident, which showed a metal part moving around inside the engine with an orange glow behind it.

Another passenger, Avery Porch, described the terrifying experience, saying, "That's when we really started freaking out. It [the plane] started slowing down a bit [and] the air cut off."

Her boyfriend, Tyler Kreuger, texted "I love you" to his parents, fearing the worst.

The captain announced that the plane had lost an engine and preparations were being made for an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Fortunately, the plane landed safely in North Carolina, with no reported injuries.

Delta Air Lines released a statement, saying there had been a contained failure in one of the engines.
