On February 11, 2022, Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti announced a series of cabinet changes in response to the mass resignation of several county executive members.
The resignations, which included County Secretary Isaiah Ogwe and County Executive Member (CECM) for Energy Beatrice Ogola, were seen as a strategic move by the officials to pursue various political seats in the upcoming August election.
Isaiah Ogwe, who also headed the Civil Service, is vying for the county gubernatorial seat, while Beatrice Ogola is eyeing the Woman Representative Position.
Speaking to the press, Governor Awiti emphasized that the reshuffling of his cabinet was aimed at enhancing service delivery in the county.
Key changes included the elevation of Chief Officer for Water and Environment Donald Ogweno Oindi to acting County Secretary, and the appointment of Dr. David Okeyo as the new CECM for Energy, replacing Beatrice Ogola.
Aguko Juma, the former CECM for Agriculture, was moved to the trade and industrialisation docket, while Beatrice Asyago, the CECM for Education, took over the agriculture docket.
Akoko Nyaoke, the former CECM for Transport and Infrastructure, was reassigned to the education docket, and Eliud Otieno, the Chief of Staff, was promoted to acting CECM for Transport and Infrastructure.
John Apollo, the former Chief of Protocol, was appointed as the new Chief of Staff.
During the press conference, Governor Awiti warned his cabinet members against laxity, emphasizing the need to complete the mega projects initiated under his leadership before the August election.
