November 8th, 2017, marked a significant defeat for the Jubilee party in the Kitutu Chache South constituency by-election. Ford Kenya's Richard Onyonka emerged victorious, securing 10,122 votes.
Onyonka's win was a result of the by-election held on Tuesday, where he outperformed Jubilee's Antony Kibagendi, who garnered 5,074 votes. The remaining candidates secured the following number of votes: Omwando Samwel Kenani (4,324), Maubi Andrew Mokaya (2,191), Nyarango Henry Morara (201), Onkangi James Kegoro (100), and Mochoge Justus Onsongo (60).
The results were announced by the constituency Returning Officer, Hilda Imbo, on Wednesday morning. This victory marked Onyonka's third term in office.
The Kitutu Chache South constituency election had been postponed following the death of Jubilee candidate, Leonard Mwamba, just days before the August 8 General Election. Jubilee subsequently handed a direct ticket to Mr. Kibagendi.
