The Senate is set to tackle a range of pressing issues when it resumes its sittings on Tuesday.
After a long Christmas break, the Senate had recalled its members in December 2021 to debate the contentious Political Parties Amendment Act 2021.
On Tuesday, the Senate will focus on approving the Senators who will serve in the Senate Business Committee, a powerful committee that plays a crucial role in preparing and adjusting the Senate calendar.
The committee, chaired by House Speaker Ken Lusaka, oversees the implementation of Senate business and programmes, including legislative programmes.
Seven Senators have been nominated to sit in the committee, including Fatuma Dullo, Stewart Madzayo, Beatrice Kwamboka, Gideon Moi, Johnson Sakaja, Charles Kibiru, and Ledama Olekina.
Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio, Minority Leader James Orengo, and the House Majority Whip Kimani Wamatangi and Minority Whip Mutula Kilonzo Junior will also sit in the committee.
Among the bills lined up for debate is the contentious Elections Amendment Bill, sponsored by Senator Olekina, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, and Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina.
The Bill has elicited mixed reactions, with a majority of leaders describing it as retrogressive.
