On August 27, 2018, Homabay County MCAs staged a secret meeting with Suba South MP and ODM Chairman John Mbadi, leading to the impeachment of majority leader Richard Ogindo.

However, ODM has since annulled the decision, sparking a supremacy battle between Mbadi and Wanga, who are both eyeing the gubernatorial seat in 2022.

Wanga is said to have the Assembly leadership under her control, prompting the impeachment attempt to unsettle the balance.

ODM's decision has rattled Mbadi's camp, with him now plotting a full-blown war with party's Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who claims he is being used by his opponents to scuttle his 2022 governorship ambitions.

Minority leader Mbadi's attempts to convince ODM Party leader Raila Odinga to rescind the decision have hit a wall.
