On January 27, 2022, the Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation embarked on a capacity building initiative to enhance the management skills of committees overseeing National Government projects.
Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki emphasized the importance of proper training for these committees, citing the collapse of several projects due to lack of knowledge among committee members.
“The projects end up falling apart due to leadership wrangles. Others personalize the projects making them not to serve the desired purposes,” the CS said.
Speaking on the sidelines of a capacity building exercise for various water development committees in Nyandarua Central Sub County, Kariuki noted that the National Government had invested heavily in community projects, necessitating capacity building among management committees to ensure their success.
“Water is a critical component towards the realization of the President’s Big Four Agenda and it is prudent to have a properly trained committee,” said Kariuki.
The CS also chided a section of politicians for politicizing government projects, saying they were doing a disservice to Kenyans.
Participants in the training lauded the organizers, noting that they were now armed with knowledge that they would apply to achieve the desired objectives.
