On January 25, 2022, a locally made rolex in Uganda set a new Guinness World Record for the 'largest Ugandan rolex', weighing an impressive 204.6kg.
Rolex, a popular street food in Uganda, is made from fried eggs and vegetables rolled inside a chapati. The giant rolex was made by over 15 Ugandans, including women, in a collective effort.
Guinness World Records shared a 3-minute video of the rolex-making process, which started during the day and extended into the night.
However, some Twitter users raised concerns about the hygiene of the process, with Ugandan Shafiq O'Mis commenting, 'Wow it's really epic but the hygiene is lacking. People were stepping on the flampen with their boots as they moved from the ground.'
Others defended the dish, with Mariano Lokoru responding, 'That's what makes a Rolex delicious.'
Uganda's rolex, which costs as low as Ush1,000 ($0.28), is largely consumed in urban areas as a fast food and has been promoted by authorities as a global tourist attraction.
Locally, the activity of rolex frying is often associated with the Basoga ethnic group in Eastern Uganda, who comprise about 8% of the nation's 46 million population.
