On January 25, 2022, Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo announced plans to absorb 321 casual health care workers on a permanent and pensionable basis.

The workers, who were employed in 2019, were assured by the governor that the process of absorption was at an advanced stage.

During a luncheon at Roddy's Green Lounge in West Bunyore, Emuhaya Sub County, Governor Ottichilo commended the workers for their commitment to service delivery despite the challenges they faced.

He also stated that the county had allocated funds to improve the workers' terms of service and pay salary arrears.

According to Dr. Kennedy Onchoge, in charge of child health, malaria is the most prevalent disease affecting children aged one to five years in the county.

Dr. Onchoge disclosed that the county recorded 33,868 cases of malaria and 53,719 cases of respiratory infection last year.

Efforts to combat malaria include distributing insecticide-treated mosquito nets to expectant mothers attending prenatal clinics, with partners such as Aphia-plus western, Africa Medical Research Foundation (AMREF), and the Ministry of Health donating nets to ensure widespread distribution.
