This archive report was first published on 25 January 2022.

On January 16, 2022, and January 20, 2022, Jeremiah Mwawuganga, a primary school teacher, posted false information on the Teachers Service Commission's (TSC) Facebook page, alleging that TSC CEO Nancy Macharia had passed away.

According to the court, Mwawuganga's posts claimed that Macharia's body had been found in Oyuu's bed, and that Oyuu, the KNUT Secretary-General, had murdered her after she failed to kiss him.

However, the prosecution alleged that Mwawuganga published the post knowing it was false and calculated to cause fear and panic to Macharia and her family.

Mwawuganga denied the charges of publishing false information, stating that he was the sole breadwinner of his family and had been cooperating with investigators.

On January 24, 2022, the court released Mwawuganga on a bond of Sh650,000, or bail of Sh100,000, and directed that the matter would be mentioned on February 9, 2022, for pre-trial.
