On a dramatic Sunday, Liverpool emerged victorious over Crystal Palace, securing a 3-1 win that has narrowed the gap to Premier League leaders Manchester City to nine points.

January 23, 2022, was a day to remember for Liverpool as they took the lead with a thumping header from Virgil Van Dijk, who remained unmarked in the box. The Reds doubled their lead before the break with an impressive passing move that ended with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain firing home a superb cross-field ball from Andy Robertson.

However, Crystal Palace came out with renewed energy in the second half, creating several scoring opportunities. Conor Gallagher flashed a header across the goal, and Odsonne Edouard had a clever backheel smothered by Liverpool's keeper, Alisson Becker.

The visitors pulled one back 10 minutes into the second half when Jean-Philippe Mateta's pass to Jeffrey Schlupp sliced open the Liverpool defence, and Edouard fired into an empty net.

Despite Palace's relentless pressure, Liverpool held their ground, and the game was decided when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Diogo Jota by Palace keeper Vicente Guaita. Fabinho fired home the spot-kick, securing the win for Liverpool.

The victory moved Liverpool to 48 points, nine behind City, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton on Saturday. Palace, meanwhile, remain 13th on 24 points.
