On January 21, 2022, Eric Obino, a 54-year-old veteran editor with 30 years of experience in the media industry, was inducted as a Gusii elder at his Bobaracho home in Kisii County.
As part of the ceremony, Obino was granted powers to lead, marking a significant milestone in his life. The Gusii elders, who conducted the ceremony, recognized Obino's contributions to the community and his commitment to serving the people of Nyaribari Chache Constituency.
Speaking to the press, Obino emphasized his desire to bring about change in the constituency. He stated, "The people of Nyaribari Chache are yearning for change. I am ready to offer myself as the next area member of National Assembly, I am calling out for support of residents who want change," said Obino.
As the Editor-in-Chief of Mediamax Network Limited, Obino has a deep understanding of the challenges facing the people of Kisii County. He promised to prioritize education, citing land scarcity as a major issue in the region. He believes that a good education is the best investment for the modern world.
Obino also vowed to address the boundary dispute between Nyaribari Chache Constituency and neighboring constituencies. He criticized tokenism, which he believes has discouraged good leaders from seeking elective seats. "I will also fight tokenism which has discouraged good leaders from seeking elective seats. Indeed, residents should be wary of political leaders who give them money for one day and leave them suffering for the next five years," said Obino.
Obino has announced his intention to seek the ODM ticket and has called for a free and fair nomination process. He will face incumbent Richard Tongi, who is serving his second term, as well as other candidates such as businessman Zaheer Jhanda, former Kenya Pipeline chairman James Kenani, and Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko.
