Covid-19 Cases Surge in Kenya: 459 New Cases Reported

As of January 21st, the Ministry of Health announced 459 new Covid-19 cases in Kenya, bringing the national tally to 319,838.

The cases were identified from 6,193 samples tested, out of a cumulative total of 3,176,985 samples tested to date.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases comprise 428 Kenyans and 31 foreigners, with 243 females and 216 males affected.

The youngest patient is a two-month-old infant, while the oldest is 110 years old.

Of the new cases, 461 patients have recovered, with 414 recovering from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 47 from various health facilities countrywide.

Eight patients have succumbed to the disease, all of whom were reported as late deaths after conducting facility audit records in January.

There are currently 827 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 7,396 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Additionally, 46 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 44 on ventilatory support and two on supplemental oxygen.

As of January 20th, 2022, a total of 11,437,774 vaccines had been administered across the country, with 6,290,257 partially vaccinated, 5,003,730 fully vaccinated, and 109,450 booster doses administered.
