On January 20, 2022, a devastating accident occurred at Rosslyn in Gigiri, Nairobi, when a 33-seater matatu veered off the road and crashed into a Total petrol station.

A CCTV recording of the incident, which occurred at 11:49am, showed two female petrol station attendants serving a motorist when the matatu ploughed into them.

Tragically, one of the attendants died, while the other was taken to Aga Khan Hospital with injuries.

According to Karuri Sub-County Police Commander Phineas Mutwiri, the body of the deceased attendant was taken to Kihara Level 4 Hospital morgue in Kiambu.

Abdi Hakim, the manager of Total Energies, Rosslyn branch, stated that the driver of the matatu escaped during rescue and fire containment efforts.

Police are yet to establish the cause of the accident, but suspect brake system failure.

Ruaka Sacco chairperson, Steve Njoro, said they are cooperating with the police to locate the driver, whose cellphone line remains unreachable.
