On July 9, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the Shs 460 million Mama Ngina Drive redevelopment project, which he had commissioned in January of the same year.
During his visit, the President expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing redevelopment of the waterfront area into a modern recreation park.
He was accompanied by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and was impressed by the transformation, encouraging the County Government of Mombasa to improve other public spaces across the city.
The redevelopment of Mama Ngina Drive is part of ongoing efforts to restore the glory of Mombasa as a leading tourist destination in the region.
Additionally, the President visited the Kibarani beautification project, which involved the decommissioning and rehabilitation of the former Kibarani dumpsite into a public park.
For years, the Kibarani dumpsite was an eyesore and a public health concern to residents and visitors driving into Mombasa because of its location right at the gateway into the city.
