January 20, 2022, marked a significant day for Liverpool as they secured a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite playing without key players Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita, who were away on African Nations Cup duty, Liverpool's Diogo Jota made the most of the opportunity, scoring a double to seal the win.

The match got off to a tense start, with Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette hitting the woodwork with a free kick in the early stages. However, it was Liverpool who took the lead in the 19th minute, courtesy of Jota's scuffed shot.

Despite Arsenal's best efforts, they lacked conviction after Jota's goal, and the visitors capitalized on this to secure their passage to the final with a neat finish from Jota in the 77th minute.

The goal was initially ruled offside but was allowed after a VAR check. To make matters worse for Arsenal, Thomas Partey was sent off for a second yellow card after a late foul on Fabinho.

With this win, Liverpool will now face Chelsea in the League Cup final, seeking a record ninth triumph.
