On July 5, 2019, prominent city lawyer Karanja Kabage died under mysterious circumstances while driving along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi. A postmortem report has since revealed that he died of cardiac arrest.

Initially, police reports had suggested that Kabage might have suffered a heart attack while driving. Detectives had even taken a vomit sample from his car to help determine the cause of his death.
