On July 9, 2019, the National Assembly's implementation committee directed the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to issue Erdemann Property Limited a license to set up affordable houses in Athi River.
The move comes amid a tussle between Erdemann Property Limited and London Distillers Kenya over environmental pollution, which has delayed the completion of 600 housing units.
According to Zeyun Yang, the tussle has punished the housing investor, and the committee has taken issue with NEMA for allegedly frustrating Erdemann Property Limited.
The committee, chaired by Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta, has directed NEMA to issue the construction license immediately, and the environmental agency is expected to appear before the MPs next week over the matter.
