On January 13, 2022, Kiambu County Governor Dr. James Nyoro launched the construction of a Central Medical Store at Ruiru Level 4 Hospital, marking a significant step towards addressing drug shortages in the county.

The six-month project aims to consolidate medical supplies and streamline the procurement, storage, and distribution of all medical supplies coming into the county.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Nyoro emphasized the importance of the warehouse, which will be able to store approximately 4 tons of refrigerated drugs and 40 tons of other materials that do not require special storage.

The store will be equipped with the latest technology, including advanced ventilation and aeration systems, to provide a conducive environment for drug storage.

According to Dr. Nyoro, the Central Medical Store will be connected to a Health Management system, which will be linked to all hospitals in the county, enabling the identification of drug shortages and timely intervention.

He explained that the computerized system will revolutionize the way medical supplies are managed, allowing for the swift detection and addressing of shortages, thereby enhancing the effectiveness and timeliness of medical services to patients.
