On July 9, 2019, a blind man and his wife were arrested by irate villagers in Mutonyora village, Kinangop Constituency, Nyandarua, after 700 grams of bhang were found in their house.

The residents, who had been suspecting the couple of selling the drug to young boys, forced them to name their suppliers and customers.

During the raid, the residents threatened to lynch the couple and burn their house, accusing them of using others to traffic the drug.

The couple was frog marched to Magumu Police Station and handed over to police together with their belongings.

According to the woman, Susan Wanjiru, they get their supply from a woman named Njoki.

Wanjiru sells the drug from home while her husband hawks it at local markets, making a daily profit of Sh500.

The man, Mukuha Kamau, exonerated his wife, saying that her only involvement is in making the bhang rolls.

However, a resident, Sofia Wanjiru, claimed that the couple involved young boys, some as young as six years, in the trade.

Kinangop Sub-County Police Commander Charles Rotich confirmed the incident, adding that the suspects will be arraigned as soon as investigations are complete.
