On January 11, a shocking incident occurred in Imenti South, Meru County, where a police officer shot and wounded a civilian outside a local bank.
The officer, identified as Roy Muchiri, allegedly shot Pharis Karani Gitobu in the leg following a disagreement outside the bank.
The matter was reported by Robert Kabetu, a member of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU).
Members of the public and police officers rushed the injured civilian to Consolata Mission Hospital, where medical personnel decided to admit him for urgent medical attention.
After the incident, Muchiri surrendered to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Nkubu Police station, where he was disarmed and the firearm was taken as an exhibit.
The police officer was arrested and placed in the station's cells, and investigations have since kicked off.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are planning to capture a statement from the victim to ascertain what led to the action.
