On Thursday, members of the LGBTQIA+ community marched to the Ministry of Education to protest a directive made by Education CS George Magoha in December 2021.

According to Makena Njeri, who participated in the march, the objective was to remind leaders that they should protect all children who have a right to education, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.

CS Magoha had earlier stated that queer students should be restricted to day schools so that they don’t influence other students in school.

Media personality Anita Nderu and musician Chimano showed their support to the LGBTQIA+ community, with Anita sharing a picture of the letter of notification sent to the police prior to the demonstration and calling the remarks made by the CS discriminatory.

Chimano wrote, “Our rights are human rights. We’re here, always been here, we’ll stay being here!”

The queer community issued demands to the Ministry of Education to curb violence and discrimination towards queer children.
